Compaction of fibres in prepreg composites (FSI coupling with 2 fluids using compressibleInterFoam)

Good morning everyone !

I am working on OpenFOAM with the compressible two-phase solver compressibleInterFoam to simulate voids during prepreg composites manufacturing process at microscale. Currently, I use an RVE with fixed fibres (lack of mesh), but I want to simulate their displacement due to applied pressure. The fibres should have their own mouvement and sometimes they can be in contact. Basically, I want to see the interaction between these fibres in mouvement, the resin, the voids (gas). Do you think I can use preCICE for that ?

Thank you so much

Hi @A_L,

I think that a group in KIT is working on similar applications and has published about something similar in the past - see: Community stories | preCICE - The Coupling Library

Overall, this sounds possible (sounds like a more elaborate FSI problem), but I don’t know if you could do it directly with these solvers. How do you actually simulate the fibers right now?
