Unable to open pull request — clarification on contribution workflow

Hi @makis and @fsimonis,

I’ve prepared a small cleanup branch and was planning to open a PR, but it looks like PR creation is restricted to collaborators.

Just wanted to check how you’d prefer external contributions to proceed right now. I’m happy to follow whatever process works best.

Thanks!

I’m assuming external collaboration got restricted due to an increase in traffic. I’m sure they will open it soon enough. ATB!

Exactly. Happy to receive contributions, but the volume in some repositories (mainly the website) is just unmanageable right now. We will be applying temporary restrictions on repositories whenever activity seems to grow uncontrollably. If you encounter this, and you really want to submit something, just try again later.

I assume there are also some semi-automatic contributions, which makes everything unnecessarily more intense. Testing what makes most sense as regulation measures right now.

Thank you all that have contributed so far. Many contributions got merged already, and we certainly have way more contributors than we could possibly work with in the summer.

Reminder to everyone: For GSoC, 1-2 well-crafted contributions are enough for us to understand what we need to know. More contributions do not really make any difference.

Thanks for the context, really appreciate the transparency. I’ll hold off for now and focus on the proposal instead.

Since some days ago we can’t make PR.is creating PR is open for now?

@shuvro-git there was a 24h limit on Feb 24 and only on the website repository. There have been many new PRs since then.

You can submit anytime, but we will need quite a few days to look at it, due to the volume.
