New preprint on waveform iteration

We just uploaded a new preprint on arXiv :book: :tada:
A waveform iteration implementation for black-box multi-rate higher-order coupling, which is a compact summary of the dissertation of Benjamin Rodenberg.

We explain how we integrated waveform iteration into preCICE. Particularly, we detail how the extension interacts with existing features: data mapping, quasi-Newton acceleration, and parallel peer-to-peer communication. We also motivate intricate design decisions. Finally, we showcase that waveform iteration significantly reduces numerical errors – often by orders of magnitude – for the partitioned oscillator, the partitioned heat, and the perpendicular flap tutorials. We study participants with different time step sizes up to extreme ratios of 100:1 or 1000:1 and different time integration methods.

All data is available for reproduction on Zenodo. The publication is currently under review. We will update this thread once it is properly published.

If you want to learn more about time stepping with preCICE, this is your chance. Feedback welcome!

Dear Benjamin,

Thank you for sending useful info on you interesting paper and dissertation. In fact, I work in 2 related areas:

  • 4D assimilation meteorological (conventional and remotely sensed satellite) data sets
  • wavelet and cross wavelet climate data obtained from various sources with different time scales and resolutions. .
    Comments will send you later.
