Built something for preCICE today — GSoC 2026 Website Modernization Introduction

Hi preCICE community! :waving_hand:

My name is Swayam Agrawal, and I’m a student from India interested in contributing to preCICE through Google Summer of Code 2026 specifically the Website Modernization project.

About me: I’m passionate about web development and love learning new technologies. I’m comfortable with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and I’m excited to dive deeper into Jekyll and Hugo through this project.

What motivates me: preCICE is used by 100+ research groups worldwide and improving its website means making it easier for scientists and engineers to discover and use this incredible tool. That impact is what excites me most.

What I’ve already done: I built the preCICE website locally using Docker and Jekyll, and added a live GSoC 2026 countdown banner to the landing page to highlight this year’s participation. Here’s a screenshot:

My questions for the mentors:

  • For the Hugo migration, should we aim to preserve the exact current design or is there room for a modern redesign?

  • Are there any specific pages that need the most attention first?

Welcome, @swayamagrawal!

Nice header and countdown!

This is something to slowly and carefully develop in the main project. We generally like the current design, and mainly want to change the system. I would expect rather iterative changes than a large redesign, but suggestions are welcome!

We will rework the complete framework. I would not expect this GSoC project to touch upon the content of the documentation. This is something for preCICE maintainers and users to improve.
