I assume you are using implicit coupling with IQN or Aitken? Could you upload your precice-config.xml?
Regarding preCICE v3: You get a few new features (e.g., time interpolation, faster RBF mapping) and compatibility with recent adapters. See preCICE v3.0.0 is finally out. But sure, this case should already work with preCICE v2.
Note that you are using an incompressible flow solver. You could try a compressible solver as well.
