# Number of exchange windows of preCICE

Is preCICE has a maximum number of time Windows for exchange? When I perform transient calculation, I cannot continue after reaching a certain number of steps, Can I fix it ? The error message is as follows:

Hi @zhaoxiyan,

no, preCICE does not have a maximum number of time windows.

There have been some related bugs between v3.0.0-v3.1.2. Please update to the latest `develop` version, or wait for the v3.2.0, which should be released soon.

In case you are using CalculiX, note that CalculiX considers the `INC` in its input file as the maximum number of increments (time steps): [Simulation gets stuck at same time window - #14 by rachaelesmith](https://precice.discourse.group/t/simulation-gets-stuck-at-same-time-window/588/14)
